Description:

Innkeep is a single player narrative adventure / job-sim about running a lonely inn during a fantasy world gold-rush. Adventurers and grave robbers are gathering, dreaming of robbing the now unprotected tombs of the gods themselves. And in the middle of it all, the Weary Pilgrim Inn, and its new master of the house: You.

The player will serve ale, cook meals, and eavesdrop on the conversations of a rotating cast of unique guests, each with their own dialogue and secrets. All the while, they will seek to set their guests at ease by deploying their growing collection of jokes and stories. If the guests have a merry time and drink enough, they’ll never even hear the player sneaking into their rooms at night to rummage through their belongings. You are looking for trinkets, but also for answers. Why did demons destroy the world?

History:

Daniel Burke has been working on Innkeep in his free time since 2015. In recent years he has been fortunate enough to collaborate with a bunch of talented people on the game. John Halpart (the composer for Heat Signature) has crafted an amazing musical score. Torgeir Fjereide has contributed lavish menu art and gorgeous pixel art character portraits. While Ben Chandler (lead artist on Unavowed) has worked on fancy character sprites and polished some key art set pieces. Trailers for the game have screened at Realms Deep (most recently in 2023). Innkeep has also appeared in Rock Paper Shotgun and Kotaku. Over 28,000 people have now wishlisted Innkeep on steam!

Features:

  • A lavishly detailed inn where walls and floors fade away to reveal what is behind or beneath them.
  • The ability to collect and share rumors, stories, and jokes by eavesdropping on real time conversations.
  • A host of guest characters with their own unique portraits and dialogue.

  • Musical tracks that are incorporated into the game, played by the bards that can join your band of outcasts and vagrants.
  • A cooking system that lets you get a little “creative” when it comes to what goes into the stew or the pies.
  • An unfolding narrative set within a fully realized fantasy world, with its own geography, history, myth, politics, and religion.

About the Principle Developer:

Daniel is from sunny Western Australia, and has wanted to make a “proper” computer game since he was 14. He grew up playing the Ultima series, programming mini games in QBASIC, and writing his own Choose Your Own Adventures. In 2015 he was working as a translator at an animation studio in Tokyo, when he was inspired to start designing Innkeep.
