Two Weeks of Room Design

I thought it might be nice to share some images showing what I’ve focused on for the last two weeks: art for the background of the main game room, the common room of the inn. It was a lot of work, with the final image 10,000 pixels wide and some finer adjustments being down on the level of 1 to 2 pixels in width. Hats off to artists. Getting some half-reasonable amount of detailing in took real time. I’m pretty happy with the end result, although I’m also happy to say goodbye to art work and get back to putting in actual game elements and environmental interactivity. hope I can get somebody more talented than me to help polish it up in the future.

As you can see from the pictures I don’t have any real experience with tools above MS paint level, so I’ve been restricted in what kinds of techniques I could use. I learnt quite a lot about Gimp along the way, and also more generally about how pixels work, what interpolation is, and how amazing the .PNG format is.  When layered later on with shadow and lighting it should look quite reasonably atmospheric.
